Downtown

A recent renaissance in the heart of our city offers new things to see and do around every corner. The 241-room DoubleTree Evansville Convention Hotel connects via skywalk to The Old National Events Plaza with 280,000 square feet of meeting space and to The Ford Center arena with entertainment and concerts by top performers from around the country as well as sporting events. Locally owned restaurants, bars, antique stores, galleries and unique shops line Main Street – some are long-time establishments like Angelo’s Italian Restaurant and some are in long-time establishments like BRU Burger in our restored vintage Greyhound bus staion. Classes begin in 2018 in the new IU Medical School and Health Science Research Center which will bring in thousands of students and faculty to downtown.

  • Our most beautiful asset, the Ohio River, serves as our Front Door to downtown and is bordered by a lovely 6.5 mile greenway for walking and biking.
  • Classic Victorian and other styles of architecture are preserved along tree-lined bricked streets such as the Reitz Home Museum, apartment/condo structures, and churches enhancing the charm of downtown.
  • The $75 million Tropicana Casino Evansville is now open offering a new land-based casino and entertainment center to downtown Evansville.
  • Six museums – a historic Victorian home museum, a children's museum, an art, history and Science museum, a transportation museum, and a WWII warship – are in the Downtown district. The African American Museum is closeby.
  • The TED: Trolley of Evansville Districts allows you to easily travel between West Franklin Street, Downtown, and Haynie's Arts District.
