Evansville, IN – Hundreds of rare and unusual South American orchids will adorn AMAZONIA during Orchid Escape at Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden taking place February 12 – March 12. Immerse yourself in the beauty of artistically displayed orchids in the 75 degree comfort of AMAZONIA, the Zoo’s world renowned indoor rainforest exhibit, featuring South American animals, plants, aquatic life, and artifacts.
There will be no additional charge for Zoo visitors to enjoy Orchid Escape. Orchid experts from the Zoo's Botanical Docent Program will be on hand during the weekends of the event to provide information about orchids and orchid care. Orchids are one of the most popular kinds of blooming plants. People are drawn to the intense and subtle coloration and exotic flower shapes found in the orchid family. A selection of orchids will be available for purchase in the Zoo's Gift Shop. Valentine gift wrapping will be available.
An Orchid Escape Sneak Preview Party, featuring an array of South American cuisine and drinks, will take place on February 11. Reservations must be made in advance by calling (812) 435-6143 ext. 441 or by visiting www.meskerparkzoo.com. Tickets are only $60 per person.
Evansville’s Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden is open 365 days a year from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (entry gate closes at 4 p.m.). Special winter rates will be in place during Orchid Escape. Adult admission is $5.50 and children ages 3-12 are $4.50. Children under 3 are free. In recognition of their support, Vanderburgh County residents receive $1 discount.
